DO CATALUNYA

The Denomination of Origin (DO) Catalunya is a wine region located in the autonomous community of Catalonia, in northeastern Spain. This DO encompasses a wide variety of landscapes and microclimates ranging from mountains to the Mediterranean coast, allowing for the production of a great diversity of wines.

Wines from the DO Catalunya are mainly made from indigenous varieties such as Garnacha, Cariñena, Macabeo, Parellada, and Xarel·lo, as well as international varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Chardonnay. This combination of grape varieties allows for the production of high-quality red, white, and rosé wines with a wide range of aromatic and gustatory profiles.

Red wines from the DO Catalunya are typically fruity, with medium to full body and soft, balanced tannins. Whites are fresh, with citrus and floral notes, while rosés are vibrant and fruity.

In addition to still wines, the region also produces sparkling wines, both white and rosé, using the traditional method or Charmat method, which are usually fresh and bubbly, ideal for celebrations and appetizers.

In terms of terroir, the DO Catalunya is diverse, with soils ranging from clayey to limestone, and altitudes varying from sea level to the foothills of the Pyrenees. This diversity is reflected in the complexity and uniqueness of the wines produced in the region.

In summary, the DO Catalunya is recognized for the quality and diversity of its wines, which reflect the richness of its terroir and the skill of its winemakers and enologists.
